Were is your Ideal Group, or Your IG?
Welcome to the next episode of the “Easy SEO and More” podcast. I’m Dr. Ty
Anyone remember “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” or “Where’s Waldo?” Similar to those, where are your customers (or your group)? But not necessarily where in the world. And not only where is your group, who are they? Have you defined your group, clan, community, or whatever you want to call them?
Before I go any farther with that, I’m going to let you in on a little secret:
Back to your Ideal Group, or your IG. They are the people most likely to buy your products or services. If you sell bubble gum, your group might be children 8-12 years old within 5 miles of your store.
Knowing who and where your group is will make all the difference in the world with your advertising, even your web site. You don’t want a web site full of car engine parts, barb wire, and steel plating if you sell upscale women’s shoes, do you?
Now, you’ve probably heard many times about defining your target market, and defining it down to a specific person or personality. But most target markets have multiple personalities (in a good way), so defining a single type of personality may not be what’s best for you. But you can define a group. What is the age range of your group? What area of town do they live in? What kind of cars do they drive? Where are they most likely to shop?
These questions are very important because they will help you to define how to market to them. You wouldn’t want to have a high-end, up-scale, dripping with diamonds web site if you are marketing to middle-class people. They may take one look at the site and decide they can’t afford what you are selling, even if they have no idea what the price is yet.
But you would want that kind of web site if you are selling high-end cars or jewelry.
Hey, do me a favor and leave a comment if you found today’s podcast helpful. Thanks!
