Google research showed that 78% of local mobile searches ended in a sale in 2014. Now, the number of people that search for things on their mobile phones is huge compared to 2014, and I’m sure the percentages have gone down. But I’ll bet the sheer numbers have gone up.
And think about it; when you’re on your phone, are you more likely just to do regular research and goof around and watch cat videos? Or are you actually looking for local stuff yourself? And if you’re doing it, that means your clients are doing it too.
So, it is hugely important. Not only that statistic, but in 2018, Google found out that over half of all searches (not just mobile, but all searches using the Google search engine) were for local products and services.
Even if you have an e commerce business, even if you don’t even have a local address, you need to find a way to get into local searches. And there’s a way to do that. If you don’t know how, contact us now and we’ll help you with that.
There’s ways to do that, even if you don’t want to give out your address. Google is making major changes that will allow for that now. There’s ways to do it for other towns, too, that are not spamming.
But watch out you don’t do things like they used to do in the old days, like putting the name of all the different towns around you at the bottom of each page: That doesn’t work anymore.
Or writing one page and spamming the city name throughout the page, and then creating new pages and changing nothing but the city name: Don’t do that either. That won’t get you blacklisted, but Google will see what you’re doing and see that your site is spamming and lower your site down in the search engines; it’s not going to help you.
But there are ways that you can get to the top of the search engines for different towns, and it’s not that difficult. And depending upon how profitable it is for you, there are certain ways that you can do it where maybe you have to spend a little bit of money, but there are also some ways where you don’t have to.
They want local companies to be found on their search engine. They were very serious about what they found out with that research they did in 2018. And ever since then, they have been re-gearing Google to make local results higher in the search engines than national results.
For instance, let’s say you’re looking for Nike shoes. They’re going to be more likely to show you a local store where Nike shoes can be sold than Nike’s website.

There’s one thing that is huge when it comes to SEO. And local searches is actually step seven in that one reason why every business should have SEO. There’s seven steps total, but they are boiled down to this one reason.
