Diversify your clients for more profit
Listen to the Podcast here.

I’m Dr. Ty Belknap with Port Bell SEO. Earlier, I talked about local SEO tips for your web site, and I got some great comments back. Thanks to those who took the time to write, I really appreciate it!

This week I want to talk to you about diversifying your clients to get more profit.

I landed a large client when I was just starting out. They weren’t the only client I had, but the income that one client generated for me was more than all my other clients combined. So, I did what any smart business owner would do: I dedicated a lot of time to that client.

You know, as a small business owner, that creating lasting relationships is very important. But relying on one client for most of your work can be very risky, as I found out myself. An economic downturn some time ago affected that client a lot, and they eventually went out of business.

And that change almost forced me to go bankrupt as well.

But luckily I was able to scramble and get more smaller clients to fill that gap.

COVID-19 has taught this hard lesson to some friends of mine as well. One particular friend specializes in helping small retail businesses. But when most small retail stores were forced to close their doors in April of 2020, that person lost over 90% of their business overnight. It’s almost a nightmare thinking of something like that, isn’t it?

So look at diversifying your client base. And to start that, look at your current clients now. Maybe make a list of each client and what sector they represent. Is it service-based businesses, retail, government agencies?

Do you work specifically with plumbers, real estate agents, or something like that? Building a reputation in a niche industry is pretty darn smart, but what happens if that entire industry dries up, or has to close their doors for a certain period of time?

So write down a list and take a good look at it. How diversified are you? If one industry gets hit hard, like the retail industry recently, how would it affect you?

But here’s the big question, the one with a brighter future. What other industries can you work with? And what is the best way to market to those industries?

Oh, have I got a secret for you! Okay, it’s not really a secret, but you can learn to do a lot of online marketing yourself if you want. Click here to get onto the waiting list for my SEO 101 for Businesses That Don’t Know SEO digital course. I’ll keep you updated on when the course starts. But I’m also going to be giving you some other stuff between now and then so don’t wait to sign up. Do it now, unless you’re driving or performing surgery. I understand if you need to wait in that case. But if you have one minute, do it now.

This course will give you three strategies you can quickly implement to get higher in the search engines, and you can use what you learn to diversify your client base by expanding your marketing.

So don’t wait, sign up today!

Have a great day!
