Many leaders talk about the importance of getting up early to read and plan for the day. Emotionally intelligent leaders, however, also use this time to reflect on interactions of the previous day. Think of the people you met with. How positive (or negative) was the interaction. Did you communicate well? What could be done better next time?
Visualization is a good self-training technique. Think of one of yesterday’s conversations, then imagine it going better than it did (even if it went well). Visualize a great interaction that ends exactly how you want it to go. Over time you will start to automatically act in that new way.
